THE CHALLENGE

Most would agree that the lack of practical financial knowledge in this country is disquieting. Financial literacy should be one of the primary life skills we teach our youth, yet less than 10% of high school graduates learn about practical money considerations in school. Learning about money - both money management skills and wealth creation - is one of the most valuable lessons a child can ascertain. With the financial conditions in today's U.S. economy, we are given an important reason to help eliminate these concerns. While there is currently a proposal in place at the governmental level to make financial literacy education a requirement, it is necessary to be proactive about these vital issues at a local level as well.

THE MISSION

The mission of the Coastwise Prize^® scholarship is to promote and inspire financial education among students to help them become more competent, aware, and wise when managing personal finances and investments. By creating an incentive for students to research and explore these important lifelong money management concepts, The Coastwise Prize for Investing Excellence will assist in developing today's youth, fostering intelligent, integrity-based thought and decision making processes relating to their financial futures.
